Myles invited me to perform for the rigging component of Magnitude 2025 (a Folsom circuit party on Saturday evening).

Rigging

The venue was SVN West. We had some issues with rigging (the heights were not ideal, and we had some cross-talk between the chains and the hoop that meant the chains hit the hoop spanset a bit when spinning even when the hoop was pulled out of the way, and because we tried to set the hoop as far away from the chains as possible, it was slightly too close to the (already too-close) gogo stage behind us, which meant that we clipped it at full extension).

Duo Hoop Performance

I had been worried about this for weeks since I had to be in Europe with F. for so long due to her gig work. This meant I returned and had 4 days until performance. Due to practicing a ton to set our routine before I left, as well as practicing 3 out of the 4 days before the show, our duo routine was super-solid on the night of show. We hit the elevator, back-balance, and based single-arm meathook that sometimes give us trouble when we are out of condition.

Multicordes

This was an ambient set, so 10-20 minutes. I had spent far more time on preparing for the duo piece, so much of my set here was improv. I felt surprisingly into the techno that was playing and made the mistake of expressing to it with a lot of high-intensity moves, including a timed straddle climb to the beat. Thus I was quite tired at 11 minutes and it was past 2 AM (which meant the crowd was a bit disjointed and not super engaged anyway), so I called it then.

I just wished I could have practiced an ambient set a bit more, but I was pretty satisfied with the skills in my performance (I landed my handstand, though not the new split I had been working on before).

I maintain that aerial doesn’t lend itself well to ambient, being a medium that relies on high strength moves for much of its curriculum, but I endeavor to get a bit better at this with some structured improv sessions.

Post-hoc

I made a reel with the 4 rigged performers (Myles and I, plus a bondage duo) that got the most traction I’ve ever had (likely due to the shared authors).

Still proud that it was fairly low effort but high impact.
