leather trapeze gaiters

made about 3 pairs of these before i found ones i was happy to wear. first step was patterning the calf (usually using aluminum foil and tape to make a pattern, cutting along the seam, and flattening out) and then adding a t-shaped panel on top. skive, fold, and grommet the sides, and then stitch the panel to the calf. add elastic to the panel. lace with boot laces. this pattern uses 2 pieces and doesn't finish the edges with foldover or topstitch ...

this is the first leather piece i ever did, via a leather intensive at thecrucible.org that taught basic vegtan skills and then helped you execute a project of your choosing. i copied a fleet ilya mask based on just a few pictures and was surprised with how well it came out. ...
